About pool cage repair and painting
Aluminum pool cages are built to last, but the frame still needs attention. Screws loosen and corrode, gussets crack, beams get bent by falling limbs, and the finish fades and chalks in the sun. A frame repair and restoration fixes the structure, and painting or refinishing brings back the color so the whole enclosure looks newer.
Typical frame repairs
- Replacing loose, rusted or missing screws, often with stainless steel fasteners.
- Replacing damaged gussets, cables and cross braces.
- Straightening or replacing bent beams and posts.
- Fixing or replacing doors, kick plates and chair rails.
- Re-anchoring posts to the deck and checking footings.
Painting and refinishing
- Cleaning, prepping and painting the frame to restore its color.
- Changing frame color, for example white to bronze, in some cases.
- Usually done together with a rescreen, since screens may need to come off for a clean finish.
When repair is not enough
- Widespread corrosion or many bent members.
- Frames built before current wind codes.
- Major storm damage. See hurricane-damaged cage replacement.

Common questions
Why do pool cage screws matter so much?
Screws hold the frame together. When they corrode or loosen, the frame becomes weaker and more likely to fail in high wind. Many installers recommend checking and replacing screws periodically.
Can a pool cage be painted?
Yes. Aluminum frames can be cleaned and painted with coatings designed for aluminum. Ask installers about the prep process and how long the finish is expected to last.
Repair or replace?
If the frame is mostly sound, repair is usually the better value. If corrosion or damage is widespread, or the cage is very old, replacement may make more sense. Getting more than one opinion helps.
